Guidelines for Setting Your Website Online
We Can Help You
Build Your Own Personal or Business Website
If you are looking for that perfect Birthday, Dad's Day or Special Occasion Gift, give them
their own "Point of Presence" on the Internet - Their very own domain name, email address, and website.
It's becoming a proven fact - nobody under the age of 40 uses the Yellowpages anymore. They go online and use the search
engines. If your business does not have its own website, you are missing potential business in your local area.
Small, local area businesses need to have a website that can be easily found in the search engines
now-a-days. And there are tools available to day make it easy as pie for you to build your own up to date website
that can 1) be quickly indexed by the search engines, and 2) contain information about your business.
that's where I come in, to provide you with the training you need to get your website up and running in no time. I've got
a lot of free video tutorials that I think can help you immensively to get you started, and up and running.
What do I mean by "point of presence?" Well, it's your own space on the internet. It's your
place to call cyber home.
If you're using it
for personal reasons, it's your own private website that you can do with what you want; post pictures, talk about
yourself, post travel journals, talk about family, share rememberances, post your resume, just about anything. It becomes
your internet space you can share with friends, family, and, yes, even strangers. That's more in line with having your own
personal blog - but more on that later.
If you're a
small business owner, or even an internet entrepreneur, it's the place people find when they are searching the internet for
your type of service, product, speciality. You've not only got a professional looking website, but you're also indexed in
the search engines so prospective customers can easily find you.
It's also a place for your very own personal or business email address. And that solves 2 problems:
1:) When you're using one of the huge portals for your email address (AOL, Yahoo, Outlook, Gmail, etc) you're forced
to create some funky wierd looking email address that nobody can remember (like email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org). That's because those email addresses have to unique to that domain. You need something that's more you, or that more accurately
reflects your business name.
2:) The other problem is when your email address is chained
to your ISP (like email@example.com for example). When you change ISP's you have to change email addresses. What's so bad about that? Well, how many times
have you changed ISPs (Internet Service Providers) over the past several years? And everytime you did, you had to broadcast
an email message to all your friends and family about the email address change. Maybe they get it, and maybe they don't. Or
if they're like my family, they get it but don't update their email address book. You find yourself overlapping 2 ISP's
just so you don't miss anything. That can get expensive.
To get around the 2 problems above,
just register your own domain name. You see, every registered domain name comes with a least 1 email address. For example,
this site, www.shagmiser.com also has my very own email address, mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org. You have complete control over your email address, even when it comes to forwarding, handling spam, etc. With your own domain name and email address, now you have just one email address, the one associated with your
It solves problem #1 immediately, because now you can have a name that
more reflects you, like email@example.com, or firstname.lastname@example.org. That's something having your own domain name can do for you.
As for problem #2, now when you have to change ISP's, you don't have to worry about changing email addresses
because you'll keep using the one associated with your domain name. I've had the same email address now for about 10 years,
yet I've changed ISP's at least 4 times in that same period. I am not chained to my ISP for an email address.
And since a domain name can have multiple addresses, you can have toe recommended 2 email addresses for your domain,
1 personal and 1 business.
And there's an additional advantage. You're not tied to accessing an
internet based mail system to retrieve your messages. Now you can use a PC or mobile app based email program (Outlook,
Outlook Express, Eudora, etc.) as your mail handler. You download your mail from their servers to your desktop.
Unlike AOL or Hotmail, which are strictly Internet mail programs, you can control your own email directly on your desktop,
your PC. And, you can still access your email through the internet when you're not on your own PC or mobile device.
I explain a little more about private email addresses on another
site, http://digitalshores.com. Make sure you bounce over there to see what I'm talking about.
Now, how can I help you? If you're totally new to the Internet,
don't understand a thing I've just been talking about, but still agree with me that having your own "point of presence"
on the Internet is a good thing, then I can help.
